COFFEE BRUIN STUDIOS UPDATE
2 min readOh my – all caps, surely you can’t be serious.
I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.
Over the years I have posted many rules, and while this isn’t a rule, it does hold true: If you do something long enough you either grow to love it, or you grow to hate it.
For the month of October, I did a piece of horror movie themed art, generally one per day. This OctoBEAR project turned into something I really looked forward to every day. It has rejuvenated me, and I am looking forward to continuing to do art like this.
I’ve been doing these pieces LIVE on TikTok. This has given me instant feedback (and a little bit of cash – not gonna lie). It reminds me of something I used to do when I was growing up. My best friend and I would hang out in my room BSing. He would throw out drawing prompts and I would draw them on the back of index cards. I still have some of them, somewhere.
What does this mean? Where does this leave the comic?
Relax, the comic is coming back. What this means is that since I am back, doing art and enjoying it I am ready to sit down and draw more strips. However, I have also learned from the OctoBEAR project that I can’t keep up the daily pace.
Here’s a compromise, a weekly schedule that let’s me continue to do some bigger pieces and work on the comic strip:
Monday: The WHEEL of HORROR
Zombie Vanna White continues to spin the wheel and present the Best of the Worst and the Worst of the Best of Horror movies and television shows.
Wednesday: Bears Drawn Badly the comic strip
Coming out of hibernation? Digital and traditional. The Bear. The emotional support Duck. Occasionally the Mouse. PLUS more work on Dogs… and Cats.
Friday: Viewer’s Choice
Commissions. Viewer suggestions. Quick draws. Lots of Coffee.
Sunday: Spin Art
THE NEW PROJECT. Think of it as “Roll for Sandwich” for art. 8 to 10 categories, hundreds of possible choices, and then a “YES AND” spinner. This is in development and I’m looking for your input.
These will be broadcast LIVE on my TikTok channel at 10PM then posted on the website and social media the next day.
Thank you for your support!
